Max Lam Designs' Cohesive Bright Villa: A Masterpiece of Residential Design

Creating a Bright, Interactive, and Cohesive Space for a Modern Family

Max Lam Designs has created a masterpiece in residential design with the Cohesive Bright Villa, a three-storey house in Hong Kong that seamlessly integrates natural and artificial light, indoor and outdoor spaces, and work and family life. The design has been recognized with a Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.

One of the most unique aspects of the Cohesive Bright Villa is its innovative use of light. In a city where many living spaces lack natural sunlight, this design stands out for its abundant illumination. Natural light is introduced to every corner of the house, from the roof window through the glass stair railing to the living room, and from the glass panel wall at the porte cochere to the dining room. This natural lighting is then intertwined with various carefully-designed artificial light sources to create a multi-layered, highly coordinated, and harmonized lighting effect.

The design also excels in creating a cohesive space. A significant architectural concept used is the feature wall and the flooring that extend from the open kitchen into the garden. By using the same materials and design, the indoor and outdoor spaces are integrated as a whole. The floor-to-ceiling display cabinet is another visually appealing spatial trick that heightens the vertical perspective of the overall living space.

Understanding the needs of modern parents, Max Lam Designs has included features that allow parents to look after and interact with their children even when they are working at home. The see-through glass stair railing and sleek working desks in the living room and bedroom make this possible. A fence panel made of walnut wood is placed next to the window in the bathroom to bring in natural light and create a relaxing spa ambiance.

The design process involved extensive communication with the client and research into the needs of workaholic parents who also value spending time with their children. The result is a design that facilitates interaction between family members and between different areas of the house. The open kitchen next to the dining room and terrace, for example, ensures that the chef is never alone during parties.

One of the main challenges of the project was to make use of the abundant natural light in the three-storey villa. The solution was a ceiling window at the top of the staircase, which allows sunlight to penetrate into the house. The see-through glass stair railing further enhances this effect, ensuring that sunlight reaches every corner of the house.

The Cohesive Bright Villa is a testament to the creativity and expertise of Max Lam Designs. It is a design that not only meets the practical needs of a modern family but also creates a beautiful, bright, and cohesive living space. The design has been recognized with a Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding quality and innovation.
